Teeth whitening is one of our most popular treatments and is a great way to achieve a brighter, healthier-looking smile. Whiter teeth can make you look younger and can make a significant difference to both how others see you and how you see yourself.
Teeth can become discoloured and yellow from either natural ageing or staining from the food and drink we consume (such as coffee, tea, red wine, soya sauce, berries and curries). Smoking is another common factor in the discolouration of teeth.
We offer whitening treatment using products from the highly reputable Enlighten brand. This delivers excellent long lasting results with a guaranteed shade of B1 or lighter.
Whitening is the perfect procedure to rejuvenate your smile without the need for expensive crowns and veneers. The degree of whiteness achieved will vary from patient to patient and with the type of treatment chosen.
Before carrying out the procedure, we will examine your teeth carefully to ensure they are suitable for whitening. If they are then we will give them a professional clean to remove any surface staining and scale.
This will help to improve the effectiveness of the whitening treatment.
We use two whitening methods and will advise you which one is best suited to you and your teeth. Please select from one of the following to find out more:
For this treatment your dentist will first create bespoke mouth trays for you. They will also provide you with the special whitening gel and show you how to place it into the trays.
The trays and gel are then taken home to be worn while you sleep or for short periods during the day. Results are normally seen over two weeks.
As the effect is cumulative, you are in control and can choose to stop wearing the mouth-guard when the desired level of whiteness is reached.
In our experience, the best, longest-lasting results are achieved using the home whitening technique.
Our office power whitening can quickly brighten teeth by several shades, making a whiter smile attainable in less than an hour!
The lips and gums are first covered before a whitening gel is applied to your teeth, which gently penetrates the surface of the teeth, breaking up stains and discolouration.
It is important to remember that while these techniques will dramatically whiten natural teeth, any existing dental work, such as crowns and fillings (even white ones), will not change colour during the process.
We can, however, utilise whitening techniques in combination with other procedures to create the best cosmetic result. We will assess if this is a potential issue at your consultation and advise accordingly.
Food and drink to avoid: Teeth staining can occur from lots of different food and drinks like coffee, tea, red wine, tomato sauce and dark-colored fruits like blueberries and blackberries.
To help keep your teeth white, try to limit your consumption of these foods and drinks or rinse your mouth with water after eating or drinking them.
Food and drink that can whiten you teeth: While many foods can stain teeth, there are also some that can help whiten them. Foods like apples, pears, celery and carrots can help whiten teeth when eaten raw thanks to their crunchy texture.
Other food items such as cheese, yogurt and milk contain lactic acid that helps to remove stains from the tooth enamel. Moreover, drinking green tea has been shown to be effective in reducing staining and helping keep your teeth white.
